Mixed media on birch wood.
Sand & Silk was inspired by the effortless beauty of a piece of flowing fabric laid across warm sand on a sunny beach. I wanted to capture the contrast between the softness and movement of silk and the raw, organic texture of sand—the way fabric naturally folds, drapes, and curves as it rests against the earth.
The sculptural form is created through flowing, organic layers that mimic the movement of fabric gently shifting in the breeze. To capture the shimmering quality of sunlit sand, I incorporated mica powder into the resin, creating a luminous finish that catches and reflects light across the sculptural surface. As the light moves throughout the day, the piece reveals subtle shifts in shimmer, much like sunlight sparkling across grains of sand.
This 3D sculptural wall art is a study in contrasts: soft and textured, delicate and grounded, still and ever-changing. The dimensional form, neutral tones, and luminous resin create a contemporary mixed media artwork designed to bring warmth, movement, and organic beauty into a space.
Sand & Silk is ultimately a moment captured in sculpture—a piece of fabric resting on the beach, the sun overhead, and the sand shimmering beneath it.
